Watermelon Tourmaline -Stone of Wholeness

The Angels kept the most beautiful of the Heart Chakra crystals for last. This crystal, Watermelon Tourmaline, brings about Wholeness. It is truly a magical crystal!

Watermelon Tourmaline’s beauty is unparalleled, this crystal draws you in. Just like a watermelon, it has two very distinct colours, green on the outside and a beautiful pinky red on the inside. The colours are best seen when this crystal is in slices. It is this colour combination that gives this crystal its name.

History:

Tourmaline has the biggest variety in colour and it is thought that through the ages Tourmaline was confused with other crystals, like Emerald and Ruby.

The Egyptians believed that the reason for the variety in Tourmaline’s colours was that it had crossed a rainbow as it journeyed up from the centre of the Earth. It is thought that when Theophrastus, successor to Aristotle, wrote about “Lyngourin” he was in fact referring to Tourmaline.

Even though Tourmaline in all its colours, may have been used for jewellery through the ages it was not until the 1800’s that Tourmaline was classified as a mineral species. It was an American gem collector, George Kunz, who introduced Tourmaline to the mainstream jewellery market when he presented Green Tourmaline to Tiffany & Co in 1875.

The Last Empress of the Ch’ing Dynasty in China, The Dowager Empress Tzu Hin, loved Tourmaline so much that her body now rests on bed of Tourmaline.

Characteristics:

Tourmaline falls into the Silicate family. This is the largest and most abundant crystal family. Tourmaline is a complex combination of minerals with Boron and Lithium as its main components. It grows with a variety of other crystals, such as Quartz, Beryl and Feldspar and forms from gasses given off by the molten rock in granites and pegmatites. Tourmaline’s hardness is 7 – 7 ½ on the Mohs’ scale which is the hardness required for gem cutting.

Tourmaline can be electrically charged when rubbed and this will cause static.

Tourmaline has seven main colour descriptions and Watermelon Tourmaline falls under the Elbaite description, this means it is multicoloured. Watermelon Tourmaline is fairly rare, making it an expensive crystal. It is found in Brazil, Africa and United States.

Pink Calcite, Stone of Connectivity

Compared to the effervescence of Rhodochrosite, this week’s crystal is the complete opposite. Pink Calcite is soft and gentle, so gentle that you can be forgiven for thinking that it has no effect, this is the beauty of Pink Calcite. It promotes calmness and serenity in such a gentle way that one does not even notice the change in oneself.

Over the years I have come to know three of the Mother Goddesses, each being very similar yet very different. Each Mother Goddess is associated with a different part of the world, Mother Mary is best known in the West, Quilla who is related to the Aztecs and only introduced herself to me last week; and Kuan Yin who is the Mother Goddess of the East. Kuan Yin’s energy is soft and gentle, but very supportive.

It is to Kuan Yin which Pink Calcite aligns its energy to and together, Goddess and Crystal help us to reach out to others. Continue reading Pink Calcite, Stone of Connectivity

Rhodochrosite, Stone of Optimism

Hi,

This week’s crystal is Rhodochrosite. It is a beautiful pinky white stone, but is not the first stone one reaches for when you set out to work with Crystal. Yet it should be!

Rhodochrosite is generally known as the Inner Child Healer. This crystal helps one to let go of the hurts of the past.

While working with Rohodochrosite this week I was introduced to a new Deity, or at least new to me. Someone whose beauty and love is unparalleled. She is an Inca Goddess. Her name is Quilla, Mother of All, Protector of the Innocent.

Amber

Stone of Protection

Oh! Where do I start? This might sound like a very melodramatic way to start a blog about what seems to be a very ordinary stone, but Amber is no ordinary crystal. It has no inner crystalline structure as it is fossilized resin. It is completely organic and yet it has a long history of mythology and folklore, having been used as a gem for many centuries and nearly all cultures believed in the healing powers of this stone. In the West today it is the crystal that is mostly embraced for its healing power.

It is one of my go-to crystals and one that I carry almost everyday. I especially like combining the energies of Amber with that of Rose Quartz. I wear these on days that I don’t quite feel up to scratch. Amber’s protective energy along with Rose Quartz’s nourishing energy is a perfect pick me up.

There is no denying Amber’s function and role in the healing world and its protection properties are most prevalent. Because of this it is also very closely linked to the wisest of Archangels, Archangel Uriel. The minute you work with Amber you call on the energies of Archangel Uriel.

Haematite

Stone of Purification

Haematite is a crystal that takes itself very seriously.  As I sat down with Haematite for the first meditation of the week I immediately felt its presence and it stayed with me throughout the week. It had a strong influence on all the healings I did this week. It is here to work and not to fool about. The messages I received were all short and sharp and to the point, all the while Archangel Zadkiel’s violet flame flickered around me.

It is truly a stone of Purification. Haematite helps one to forgive those who have hurt you and to let go of issues and situations that drain you of your life energy. It will also help with hurts that has been carried over from past lives and in doing so purify your auric field and soul.

Red Jasper

Stone of Stability

Red Jasper is the one crystal that everyone should have in their Crystal Kit. Just being in your kit, in your home Red Jasper will work its magic on you. Red Jasper is the friend that everyone wants… the friend who is always there, who is always ready to help you and give support, would never show you up and very seldom asks for anything in return.

The key word for Red Jasper is stability, but it could just as well be continuity, dependability or simplicity as it will bring all these aspects into your life.

Red Jasper is truly the workhorse in the Crystal world. It does not have to be asked to do any work for you, it will always strive to stabilise the environment it finds itself in.
