Today is World Ocean Day.

Ocean Jasper reminds us that the Ocean needs us just as much as we need the Ocean, that the Ocean is the ultimate metaphor for life. On the surface we all lead very busy, hectic; even stormy lives, yet deep within our being there is a profound sense of calm and in this sense of calm the body continues to function without interference from the outside. Ocean Jasper is our connection to this calm. Just like the Ocean, if you fill the body with waste it begins to suffer and this perfect harmony which is our natural state is undermined.

None of us stand alone, we are all surrounded and connected by energy the same way the continents are surrounded by water and all our Oceans are connected.

History:

Ocean Jasper is a fairly “new” crystal. It was first written about in 1923, but it was not until 1999 that the crystal was actively mined and today nearly all the Ocean Jasper deposits have been depleted. It is only found in Madagascar. It was originally found on the North West shoreline of Madagascar, hence the name, but in 2004 it was also found 1.5km inland from where is had originally found. This inland deposit is a blend of deep green, yellow and black.

It is also known as Orbicular Jasper or Rhyolite.

Characteristics:

It was originally thought that this crystal belongs to the Jasper branch, but more and more it is thought that it belongs to the Chalcedony branch of the Quartz family as 99% of its composition is Chalcedony and as such displays more characteristics of Chalcedony than that of Jasper. It is a truly beautiful stone with bands or waves of green, pinks, whites, yellows, orange, reds and blacks with small bursts of dots or flower like patterns and the occasional inclusion of Druzy Quartz. Druzy Quartz is when a hole in the crystal is filled with many tiny, tiny Quartz crystals.

Chakra Connection:

Ocean Jasper is closely linked to the Higher Heart chakra. The Higher Heart chakra is the seat of empathy and governs how we act towards others and our environment. When this chakra is in balance, Universal love flows from here to all including Mother Earth.

Function:

Ocean Jasper is the crystal for connectivity. It works on all levels and helps you to understand the concept of:

“One is part of the Whole and the Whole is part of the One”.

On the physical level it helps you to understand the interconnectedness of the body. Each of us is made up for many different cells which in turn is made up of many atoms and elements and all these cells make a perfect person. These atoms and elements reach far beyond the skin of a person. It is found in each and every aspect of life.

On the mental level we recognize and accept that all knowledge is already known. This universal knowledge reaches beyond any information we can learn from books, yet it is this knowledge that drives us forward as a species. Accessing this knowledge is how we effect change in our behaviour.

On an emotional level we come to realise that we are all connected and how we behave directly influences each other. We begin to understand that it is by being kinder to yourself that you are kinder to those around you.

 

On a spiritual level this interconnectedness grows to expand across dimensions and reach out to the higher realms so that we can feel and know that Spirit is very much a part of us as we are apart of it.

In this combined realisation lies the knowledge that we are all one, we are just as much part of the Universe as the Universe is part of us.

I love Ocean Jasper. It is one of my favourite crystals. Just by looking at it, one cannot but be mesmerized by this stone. It draws you in.

It is a deeply calming crystal.

Whilst I am writing this blog I have a clear vision of a stormy ocean with the deep sense of calm within and this is what Ocean Jasper will do for you… it will help you to function in a busy world whilst keeping a sense of calm and sanity within.

The Best Way to Clean Ocean Jasper:

Ocean Jasper loves the gentle lapping of seawater. If you are fortunate enough to live close to the beach hold your crystal in the shallow waters and let the waves lap over it a few times. This will not only cleanse your crystal, but also charge it.

If you do not live close to the sea, place your crystal on a bed of salt after you have used it and let it say there overnight, wash it in the morning and charge your crystal as normal.

How to use Ocean Jasper:

Ocean Jasper is a crystal to meditate with. It helps with the calming of the mind.

Simply hold the crystal in your hands on your lap.

Ocean Jasper is appreciated by many of the Archangels and Deities, but is most closely associated with Archangel Ariel, who often works very closely with Archangel Raphael when Earth Healing is required. She is beauty and grace personified, but has the strength of a lion.

Archangel Ariel understands that before we care for our environment, we have to be able to feel compassion for ourselves and those who share this Earth with us.
