Stone of Protection

Oh! Where do I start? This might sound like a very melodramatic way to start a blog about what seems to be a very ordinary stone, but Amber is no ordinary crystal. It has no inner crystalline structure as it is fossilized resin. It is completely organic and yet it has a long history of mythology and folklore, having been used as a gem for many centuries and nearly all cultures believed in the healing powers of this stone. In the West today it is the crystal that is mostly embraced for its healing power.

It is one of my go-to crystals and one that I carry almost everyday. I especially like combining the energies of Amber with that of Rose Quartz. I wear these on days that I don’t quite feel up to scratch. Amber’s protective energy along with Rose Quartz’s nourishing energy is a perfect pick me up.

There is no denying Amber’s function and role in the healing world and its protection properties are most prevalent. Because of this it is also very closely linked to the wisest of Archangels, Archangel Uriel. The minute you work with Amber you call on the energies of Archangel Uriel.

History:

As I mentioned earlier nearly every culture has a folklore relating to the meaning, use and origin of Amber. It has been prized as jewellery through the ages, in fact it is thought that this gem was one of the first stones to be used as jewellery.

The Slavic tribes believed that it was the tears of God and would protect children from kidnapping and still today it is the traditional gift to give when a child is born.

Both the Romans and the Egyptians believed in its preservation properties. For the Romans it was a vessel of eternal youth and they believed that if you were to stroke an Amber it would enhance a youthful look. The Egyptians used it as a preservative and it was found in many Egyptians Tombs.

Characteristics:

Technically speaking Amber is not a crystal. It is the fossilized resin of ancient conifers trees. When a tree had a tear in its bark it, the resin oozed out and as it flowed it would trap seeds, leaves and even small bugs in it.

The best Amber comes from the Baltic, but one can also find Amber from the Dominican Republic. Sadly though, because it is so highly valued, one can now find fake Amber for sale.These fakes can be organic or man-made. Organic fake Amber is called Copal which is and looks very much like the real thing only it is not as old as true Amber. Copal often smells of pine when it is rubbed. Man-made Amber is made of plastic, it is easily recognisable as real Amber will almost never have large bugs and reptiles in it and it would be very clear.

Unlike any other crystal Amber will always feel warm to touch. It is one of the lightest crystals or gems there is to be found and it will float on top of salt water. Because it is organic no two pieces are the same and it comes in a great array of colour from near black to brownish red to orange to yellow to cream.

Something else that is very interesting about this crystal is that it can create static electricity when rubbed.

Function:

Amber is an aura protector. When you work with it is will heal any tear or rip in your aura while at the same time build and strengthen your Auric field by drawing negative energy out and creating a space in which the body can heal itself. It cuts any attachments from your chakras, especially from the Solar Plexus.

 

 

Because of its warming colour, it will lift your spirits and help you to see things in a more positive light. This along with its protection properties will help you to see things more clearly as they are and will give you courage to make any necessary changes.

It is also an excellent crystal for anyone who is suffering from an illness or disease as it draws pain out of the body. It also helps to detox the liver.

What to expect:

Amber is a highly specialised crystal and I would recommend that you choose a few pieces that you attune to your energy field as it takes a little time to work its magic. As it is a slow working crystal it should be worn for long periods at a time.

The Best Way to Clean Amber:

Amber is the one crystal I would be sure to clean very thoroughly as it is a magnet for negative energies. When you first bring your crystal home, wash it thoroughly under some cold running water and then bury it for at least 24 hours in the ground. After this give it another rinse before charging and attuning it to your energies.

Wash your Amber regularly and give it a ground cleanse at least once a month.

Charging:

Amber is often seen as the embodiment of sunlight as it is formed from the resin of trees.

Place your Amber in a sunny spot for a couple of hours to charge your crystal, then attune the Amber to your energy by holding it gently in your hand. Bring all your focus to the crystal and let the energy of the Amber merge with your energy.

How to wear Amber:

Amber can be worn in any way you wish, most commonly it is worn as jewellery. So choose a piece of jewellery that you feel most comfortable with. I do not own any Amber jewellery, but have about 6 pieces one of which I  carry on my body. I always allow the crystal to guide me to wear it wants to be worn.

 

Affirmation for when working with Amber:

I allow the warmth of Amber to flow into my being to lift me up, give me protection and courage to face the day with love and laughter.

Angels working with Amber:

Amber works solely with Archangel Uriel, whose name means ‘fire of God’. Archangel Uriel is the wisest of all the Archangels. He is also the most unintrusive of Angels. Archangel Uriel is deeply creative and will always make you feel empowered. He is the Archangel to call upon when you need guidance on major life decisions and how to move forward in difficult situations, but don’t expect a bang as Archangel Uriel simply places ideas in your mind allowing you to take credit for the concept.

 

Invocation:

Archangel Uriel, beloved Wise One, please give me insight on how to move forward with this situation I am now facing.

Conclusion:

You can never go wrong by working with Amber and Archangel Uriel, no matter what the situation both crystal and Archangel will lead you to a positive outcome.
